Joseph Robinson was born in South Shields, England. Educated in Newcastle on Tyne and London and has various degrees in Microbiology. Served National Service in RAMC. Worked in hospital services in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Scotland before returnig home in the 1960's.

• Melbourne College of Art  (Australia)
• and under New Zealand's best known contemporary painter, G.T. Moffitt.
